Adding in Images
An image is a stand alone tag as it has a beginning, but it doesn't close with a standard /closing tag.
Standard Image Tag:
This consists of a source, the width and height, a border, and an alt tag. What is an alt tag? This is another very important search engine friendly tag. Or you could use it to help the blind actually see your web images. When you place their mouse over the image above, you will see a small box popping up with the message: This is a standard image tag. When a blind person does this, their web browser will read it to them verbally.
The second image tag is set up so text can align around it. You can align it left or right. You will see the hspace/vspace tags inserted. This will give space between the image and the text.
We will use the following image of a person to demonstrate this:
No Spacing:
March brings Spring Training, Lent, a hint of Spring and other opportunities to reflect on the potential for renewed vision and energy for all that we do.
At the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans we look towards a reinvigorated training series, which includes job training for specific employment opportunities for our clients. Working with Bunker Hill Community College and through our Post-Incarcerated Veterans Program as well as with local employers, we continue to strive for employment realization. The objective is to provide another avenue that leads to independent living and self-respect. The program seeks to not only train for positions but also to add a "work/study" approach that links clients to employers in a way that encourages post - training sustainable employment.
The old adage, In Like a Lion Out Like a Lamb was meant to describe March weather patterns but the Lion aspect could also suggest that we will continue to move ahead at "high port" towards our objectives.

You can see from the above examples why it is important to use hspacing and vspacing. The site doesn't look crowded.
To add an image using Dreamweaver, click on the button.
Once you have chosen the image to add to the site, press OK. A new menu will appear.
Place in your alt text (either search engine terms, a description of the picture for the blind, or leave blank). Do not use the Long Description option as you do not have a site on the web. Do not use the folder next to it as it will put your hard drive root directory on the site (c:\\webclass\index\images\myimage.gif) as when you upload to a server, it will still be looking for the image on your hard drive.
