Web Design and the economy
web design boston
With the economy taking a nosedive, the money you have to spend is going to need to stretch further. But at what cost?
If you want to redesign your site the best method to use is choice. It will mean more work from you, but the end result is having a website that pleases you and your budget. How can this be accomplished?
Check out and contact no less than 3 web design firms. I don't mean head off and just look at their own website. But look at their portfolio examples for 3 important things.
1) The Look:
The look and feel of the web designer's website is important. But so aren't the sites they have done. Remember, the web designer will put the bells and whistles into their site. But the cost for other people's websites will dictate how high end, mid-ranged or light the site will appear. You will likely have a wide range of sites to view. Check them all out. Yes it is time consuming. But the savings you will get could be incredible.
It could very likely mean that three different design firms will have different prices, different methods of achieving the same look and feel, different time schedules. Never be afraid to ask questions on how they did this piece of Flash,
or how they got design look and feel. This is your site, know the answers before you choose.
2) Easy to navigate:
If a web designer's sites are hard to navigate, ask why. Listen to their answers. A web designer will want things done correctly in most cases, but the customer often will trump the designer as they want a certain look and feel. But if you see a lot of sites having the same problem, it is likely the design company.
But if their sites are easy to navigate, then it shows a lot of methodical thought went into the process. Navigating a site seems like a silly thing to worry about, as they are just links to a page. They will find it eventually, right?
The number 2 reason for someone to leave a site is they can't find what they are looking for right away.
So test their sites. Not just the ones listed first, but also those that are listed last.
3) Do any of their sites offer what you are looking to have done?
This is a big thing people need to be cautious of. Hiring a web developer who says this and that can be done, but offers no working examples on their websites. Asking for examples of such sites should be done. Remember, this is YOUR site,
and your MONEY.
So with today's economy, you taking the time to check things out ahead of time will determine how much money you can save. Does it make sense to spend $10,000 for a site when you could have the same thing for thousands less? Just remember, for this to work, you have to do your homework.
